Upcoming Appearance: YMCA Breakfast of Champions - February 27, 2008

I have been invited to attend the YMCA Breakfast of Champions to speak about my platform for Ms. Wheelchair America 2008: Physical Fitness for People with Disabilities.

The South Shore YMCA is a not-for-profit association of individuals dedicated to improving the quality of life for all through programs that promote healthy spirit, mind, and body. Rooted in Christian tradition and values, the YMCA seeks to serve all people, regardless of age, gender, race, religion, or economic circumstances.

Their programs and services strive to strengthen the family, guide the youth of today, and meet the ever-changing needs of the community. The vision of the South Shore YMCA is to be a place where everyone has the opportunity to grow and thrive through the unique services and programs. The Y is ever-striving to enrich our member experience and foster a sense of community through inclusion and outreach.

The YMCA continues to strengthen volunteer and financial resources, and internal operations to manage current needs and support future growth. Together we will continue to make a difference in the lives of thousands of area children and families as we transform our vision into an ongoing reality. Together we will continue to make dreams come true for individuals from all walks of life, all abilities, all economic circumstances, all ages, and all ethnicities. As we envision a society of strong kids, strong families and strong communities, together we can celebrate our past accomplishments and look to the future for many more dreams-come-true.

The Partnership Program

To ensure that people of all abilities are able to come to the Quincy Branch, we offer a unique and growing service through the Partnership Program. Individuals with a disability who require a workout partner may qualify for this program.

A master trainer teaches both the participant and his or her self-selected partner how to properly use the specialized strength and cardiovascular equipment in our fully-equipped fitness area for disabled individuals. Participants who do not have a workout partner are eligible to enroll, but may experience a waiting period until a volunteer becomes available.
