Miss USA Pageant has Disabled Contestant

Abbey Curran, Miss Iowa 2008, competed against 50 other contestants in the Miss USA pageant in Las Vegas tonight.

Abbey Curran was crowned in November 2007 and become the first state winner in the history of the Miss USA Pageant who to have a visable physical disability. Born with Cerebral Palsy, Abbey has dedicated her life to proving that no challenge or limitation is great enough to stop her from achieving her dreams.

Not only has Abbey successfully placed in more than five pageants, she also took the life lessons she learned and created her very own non-profit pageant for young girls and women with special needs and challenges. The "Miss You Can Do It" Pageant is now in its fifth year, and Abbey would someday like to see the pageant become nationally known. Abbey is currently pursing her degree in public relations at St. Ambrose University.

In her spare time, Abbey loves watercolor painting, continuing flying lessons in the hope of one day getting her pilot’s license, hanging out with her friends and family, eating her favorite pasta salad at Arthur’s Deli and working closely with Easter Seals and the American Cancer Society. Abbeys lives by the motto “If you can dream it, you can do it!”
